We had our regularly scheduled call this morning and discussed several books to start and we collectively decided that we want to read the Classic, The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D.

We are going to pass next week as most of the group are not going to be able to make the call, or have difficulty making a part of their holiday so we will start this new book in 2 weeks on September 13.

We finished the book we are currently reading, Twelve Pillars by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener and the we were joined on the call by the author Chris Widener!!!  It was great to finish up the story and learn the real last name of Charlie and to hear the final pillars taught by Mr. Davis.

We read Chapter 4- (pages 43- ) in Twelve Pillars by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener.

Here are some great lines from this section:

“If someone is going down the wrong path, he doesn’t need motivation to speed him up.  He needs education to turn him around.  Learning is the beginning of wealth.  Learning is the beginning of health.  Learning is the beginning of spirituality.” page 73

The book list on page 78 is the list that Chris Widener told me personally is his list to read!

This morning we read pages 115-146 covering chapters 32-38 of Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else by Jon Gordon.

This section of the book is a great emotional, pull on your heart strings, story.  Listen in as we read these great chapters.  Here are a few of our favorite spots this week:

This book is SUCH A GREAT READ!  In Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else by Jon Gordon we covered Chapters 21-31 (pages 81-114) on the call this morning.  Here are a few of the highlights we enjoyed most:

…”we don’t live our life based on reality but rather based on our perception of reality.” (page 105)

“Don’t let the moment define you. You define the moment…. Define it with you mental strength, faith and confidence.  Define it by knowing that regardless of the outcome, you have given you very best.” (page 112)

Today on the call we read pages 53-80 from Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else by Jon Gordon and got several GREAT triggers for the future…

“…actually it’s how he prepared for Game Day that made him perform so well.” (page 54)

What makes a difference between a good baseball player and a Hall of Famer?  ”…they do a hundred things 10 percent better than everyone else.” (page 57)  ”In fact, the best don’t do anything difference.  They just do the ordinary things better.” (page 58)

“The Best ZOOM-FOCUS… John Wooden would teach his players how to tie their shoes on the first day of practice… it’s about practicing and perfecting the fundamentals.” (pages 62-63)

“If the devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.” (page 67)  It’s about mental toughness.  Mental toughness is EVERYTHING!” (page 68)

“To be the best you have to train and develop your mind as much as your body , and you must start NOW.” (page 72)

Love it how he brought one of my favorite characters, JOY, make in this book to be the mother of the star. (see page 73)  If you are not familiar with JOY the amazing BUS DRIVER, you have got to read The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy by Jon Gordon.

WEED AND FEED- Each day you need to weed out the negativity and feed it positivity.  You need to weed out the self-doubt and negative talk and feed it positive thoughts, memories, visuals and prayer.” (page 75)

I would have to right every one of the 20 ways to get mentally tough from Chapter 20 (pages 77-79) so just RE_READ THEM AGAIN!!!

Today we read pages 27-52, covering chapters 8-13 of Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else by Jon Gordon.  Here are a few of our call’s highlights:

We started a new book this week on the Book Readers Club from one of my personal favorite authors, Jon Gordon called Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else.  We read from the Introduction through Chapter 7 and already this story and the teachings Jon is imparting from it are engaging!  A couple of our favorite quotes from the reading on the call this morning:

…”how you train the mind is actually more important than how you train the body.” (page 13)

“As Sun Tzu said, ‘Every battle is won before it’s ever fought.’  It starts in the mind” (page 13)

“Making the team is a goal.  But striving for greatness is a life mission.” (page 24)

“Are you willing to pay the price that greatness requires?” (page 25) *this is one you can print out and put on your monitor!

This morning we finished our reading of Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? by Seth Godin and we had a very special 15 minutes on the call when Seth joined us LIVE!  It was great to ask him a few questions and I loved his answer to my trademark insight question to everyone I interview, “What is the ‘ONE BIG THING’ that made the BIGGEST difference in your life?”.
